Laboratory Experience for High School Students (LEHSS)
The University of Washington Engineered Biomaterials (UWEB) Education and Outreach Program at the
University of Washington has been conducting a summer outreach program, now in its third year,
with high school students from the Seattle area. The goal of the Lab Experience for High School
Students (LEHSS) program is to encourage a diverse student representation toward a personal
commitment to a career in science/engineering and acquaint them with exciting research in engineered
biomaterials at the University of Washington campus. LEHSS will NOT be held in 2009.
Who? |
Seattle area high school juniors
who have had biology and chemistry, interested in science and
engineering. Students must be 16+ years old before the start
of the program. |
Cost? |
Students will be paid hourly by UWEB,
a National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center. Funding
does not cover food or lodging. |

Program Focus:
- Gain experience in a research laboratory.
- Interact with undergraduate and graduate students
and faculty.
- Develop teamwork skills.
- Complete a UWEB project.
- Write a report on the duration of lab experience.
- Share experience with fellow students, teachers,
and scientists.
