Undergraduate Scholars in Research Program (USIRP)
The USIRP program will not be conducted in 2011.
The goal of the program is to provide a cross-disciplinary research experience to qualified and deserving undergraduate students for four quarters. The first group of eight students were accepted into the program which was implemented Winter quarter 1999. The first quarter of the research experience is for credit only, and participants will receive a stipend for two quarters beginning Summer quarter. The program addresses one of the challenges of the Center, which is to cultivate a long term relationship with undergraduate students who not only participate in research opportunities, but also enroll in UWEB core courses.
During the course of the year, USIRP students will be engaged in many rich research opportunities, including:
• attendance to selected lectures on ethics and communications from the Engineer's Toolbox course
• presenting in at least one scientific poster session
• receiving one-on-one mentoring from faculty and graduate students
• submission of a research paper for publication in the Journal of Undergraduate Research in Bioengineering (JURIBE)
