UWEB Cell Culture Labs

The UWEB cell culture facilities support needs of UWEB research and education. Projects using human or animal cell lines or primary cultures can be conducted using this resource. The three lab areas include the main cell culture lab, the cell culture teaching lab, and a Biohazard lab specified for culture work with viruses or primary human blood or tissue.

Together the suites currently provide UWEB researchers with access to ten biosafety cabinets and ten water jacketed incubators as well as centrifuges, cell counters and hemacytometers, waterbaths, plasticware, refrigerator and -20 freezer storage space, a liquid nitrogen cryopreservation tank, a Molecular Devices VersaMax tunable microplate reader with networked computer, a Coulter Counter, a Cytospin, a large autoclave, and purified water supplies. Four phase-contrast microscopes are available in the cell culture suites. One is equipped for video display.

Use of the UWEB cell culture facility is limited to members of UWEB labs. The teaching lab space is also used for training classes organized through UWEB Education and Outreach. The cell culture labs are supported jointly by those making use of the resources. For more information or to arrange for access, please contact Colleen Irvin.
